Class of 2009 Applications
Due January 15 |
The deadline for applications for the Class of 2009 is next week, January 15th. In light of the challenging economic news we hear daily, we have been encouraged that applications for the Class of 2009 are coming in at a good pace but we still have work to do. Now is the time for you to reach out and encourage those candidates that you believe could benefit from the LEAD VIRGINIA experience to send their applications in. Chamber Day at the Capitol |
Join your LEAD VIRGINIA colleagues on January 28 for Chamber Day at the Capitol, an exceptional and once a year opportunity when the statewide business community gathers in Richmond to hear from Virginia's top leadership and meets with local Delegates and Senators.
This year's confirmed speakers are Speaker of the House Bill Howell, Lt. Governor Bill Bolling, Attorney General Bob McDonnell, and Governor Tim Kaine (invited). Chamber Day will be held at the Library of Virginia,just steps from the General Assembly building and state Capitol.

LEAD VIRGINIA is the Morning Coffee Sponsor for Chamber Day at the Capitol and uses this opportunity to gain increased visibility among local Chambers throughout the Commonwealth. LEAD VIRGINIA alumni are welcome to participate and register for this event, and learn about upcoming issues within the General Assembly. Following the Chamber Day at the Capitol event, the Virginia Chamber hosts their annual Old Dominion Assembly with a reception at the Omni Hotel in downtown Richmond. This is a separate event but one that is worth your time to stay over and attend.

Peter Blake, '08 was appointed by the Richmond City Council to serve on the Richmond Public Library Board of Directors in 2008. He was also recently reappointed to serve on the Virginia Foundation for Humanities Board of Directors.
Theresa Noe, '08 was recently appointed to the Board of Trustees for the Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce as the HCA Representative. Theresa has also taken on the role of Treasurer for LEAD VIRGINIA in 2009.
Wanda Jeffress, '08 serves on the Board of Trustees for the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center in South Boston.
Quinton Bullock, '05 was selected as the next President of Schenectady County Community College in New York effective July 1, 2009. Currently Quinton serves as the Provost at Tidewater Community College, Virginia Beach Campus.
Julien Patterson, 05 was recently elected Vice Chair of Virginia FREE (the Virginia Foundation for Research and Economic Education).
Barbara Reese, '05 has been tapped by Governor Tim Kaine as his new Deputy Policy Director in the Office of the Governor.

Virginia Center for Architecture Seeks
New CEO |

The Virginia Center for Architecture Center is conducting a national search for a full-time Director upon the retirement of its founding president and chief executive officer, John W. Braymer, Ph.D., Hon. AIA. The Center hopes to fill the position by April 2009. Responsibilities will include working with and helping develop the governing board; representing the Center in the Richmond community as well as throughout the region; leading the institution's fundraising through a capital campaign; expanding its programs of exhibition, education, and retail; leading the on-going restoration of a 28,000 square foot historic landmark building; and leading the institution to accreditation by the American Association of Museums. Required background and experience include a degree in a related discipline as well as significant work in architecture, design or related arts, whether in a museum or educational setting.
