LEAD VIRGINIA's Alumni Conference Proves a Success
Alumni Conference
LEAD VIRGINIA alumni came away with a clear message of an emerging yet strong entrepreneurial economy in Roanoke and the New River Valley during LEAD VIRGINIA's first alumni conference earlier in June. Conference participants gave the session high marks and reflected on the most meaningful aspects of the conference:
"This was a highly motivated crowd and the networking was excellent; speakers were superior." "Back on the bus again!" "Re-engaging with fellow classmates and engaging with other classes; refocusing on regional differences and their importance to the Commonwealth as a whole." "Seeing first hand that science, technology, innovation and collaboration can move mountains." "Bringing alumni back together in a high level learning environment; spotlighting new regions and the innovation underway."
If you missed the conference, we hope to see you at the next one! Suggestions and recommendations are already coming in for next year.
Many thanks to Alumni Committee Chair Bernie Niemeier '07, Virginia Business, and to Mike Drzal '07, LeClair Ryan, for their wonderful work on capturing the commitment to forward momentum of the Roanoke and Blacksburg region.
LEAD VIRGINIA extends its sincere appreciation to our generous conference sponsors: Carilion; LeClair Ryan; Virginia Tech Foundation; and the NewVA Corridor Technology Council.

LEAD VIRGINIA Board member Dr. Glenn DuBois, Chancellor of Virginia's Community College System, is riding his bicycle 700 miles across Virginia this summer to raise money for Great Expectations, a program launched by the Virginia Foundation for Community College Education to help foster children make the transition as they age out of foster care to postsecondary education. Dr. DuBois hopes that his summer vacation will raise both resources and awareness for an issue that holds a special place for him - helping foster children become productive and thriving young adults.
David Goldberg '08, Inova Mount Vernon Hospital, was honored as George Mason University's College of Health and Human Services' Distinguished Alumni in recognition for mentorship and leadership in the community at a ceremony in April.

Send us your updates -- we love to brag on you!
